Photographing Farms Could Constitute Trespassing

Check out the legislation here

introduced by State Senators Jim Norman (District 12) and Alan Hays (District 20), would make photographing farm land without the written consent of the property owner a misdemeanor is currently making its way through the Florida State Senate.

To keep this bill from moving any closer to becoming a law, we urge you to contact your state legislators (both the House and Senate) to ask them to not support this measure. To find out who your state representatives are, and how you might contact them, visit:

Classic Images: Photography by Ansel Adams

“Classic Images” includes 72 images - all black and white - that he personally printed for his daughter.  This is one of his museum sets, a portfolio he conceived in the 1970s, as the best images from his career.  Landscapes dominate the group, complemented by some close-up nature works, portraits and architectural subjects.  Adams reveals his own emotional responses to the subjects, making them far more than mere records of a place.

The fifteen sections of the exhibition encompass Adams’ work throughout the country from 1921 through 1968.  His devotion to the American wilderness is evident in his photographs of several national parks - especially images of his beloved Yosemite.

Familiar and Fantastic: Photographs from the Dandrew-Drapkin Donation
February 19-June 12, 2011

This engaging and diverse exhibition celebrates two stellar gifts to the Museum of over 12,000 photographs from The Ludmila Dandrew and Chitranee Drapkin Collection. One of the most expansive photography collections in American private hands, The Dandrew-Drapkin Collection is rich in imagery by unknown or itinerant photographers, Americana and vernacular works, photojournalism, documentary photography, portraiture, and landscape, and it contains almost all known photographic media.

Familiar and Fantastic spans more than 100 years and features over 100 images. It is the first in a series of exhibitions organized by the Museum from these magnanimous donations. Highlights include daguerreotypes by Antoine Claudet, John Jabez Edwin Mayall, and Marcus Aurelius Root; a rare ambrotype portrait of James Cutting by Mathew Brady; and albumen portraits by Nadar and Etienne Carjat. Durandelle’s stunning composition documents the building of the Paris Opera and is featured along with historic images from an album on the construction of the Panama Canal.
