March 3 through July 8, 2007

Ever since beat writer Jack Kerouac’s book, On the Road, captured America’s imagination in the 1950s, countless youths have taken to the highways and back roads in search of their country and themselves. On the Road: Photographs Across America offers a vicarious road trip for the viewer, a journey told though images. Culled from the MFA photography collection, the exhibition features the work of 20 gifted artists including Brett Weston, William Christenberry, David Vestal, Robert Rauschenberg, Rodger Kingston, and Emmet Gowin
